UK supplies Ukraine with over £1 billion worth of ammunition, funded by revenues from frozen Russian assets

The Insider

During his visit to Kyiv today, UK Defense Secretary John Healey announced that London has used revenue from frozen Russian assets to fund military aid to Ukraine. More than £1 billion derived from Russian assets has enabled Britain’s delivery of hundreds of thousands of artillery rounds, hundreds of surface-to-air missiles, and countless spare parts. New contracts have also been signed for the maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles.

According to the official press release, over the past 50 days alone, the UK has supplied Ukraine with:

  • 4.7 million rounds of small arms ammunition
  • 60,000 artillery shells, plus rockets and missiles
  • More than 2,500 drones
  • More than 200 electronic warfare systems
  • 100 light weapons
  • 30 vehicles
  • Additional counter-drone and air defense equipment.

Additionally, the British government has provided Ukraine with a £2.26 billion loan, which is also being repaid using money raised from the proceeds generated by frozen Russian assets.

Defense Secretary Healey stated that the UK is increasing its military support to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression, while also making every effort to secure peace alongside the rest of the “Coalition of the Willing.” During his visit to Kyiv, Healey welcomed the strengthening ties between the defense industries of the United Kingdom and Ukraine.

In August it was reported that, over the first six months of 2025, Ukraine received €10.1 billion in revenue from Russian assets frozen in the European Union. These funds were allocated to finance both military and civilian projects.
